Product Overview
A versatile set of tools that includes a conventional disc cutter set with 7 punches plus 14 additional punches for creating washers and cone-shaped discs. The seven disc cutting punches are in the diameters1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 7/16", 1/2", 9/16" and 5/8". There are an additional 7 conical, convex punches in these same 7 diameters plus 7 more conical, concave punches, also in these same diameters.
The 7 flat punches are used in the usual manner to punch out discs from malleable metals. The 7 conical, convex punches are used in fabricating concentric washers. These punches are called "center positioning dies." To create a washer shape, you punch a hole in your sheet metal to the size of the inside diameter of the washer you wish to create. The disc so created is set aside and your sheet metal is moved to the hole in your disc cutter corresponding to the outside diameter of the washer you are making. Then you insert a positioning die, in the same size as the outside diameter of the washer you are making, tapered end first, to center the hole in your sheet metal. Remove the positioning die, replace it with the same size punch, strike the punch, and the result is a washer with a concentric hole.
To form cone shapes, first cut a disc using one of the flat punches. Then place this disc over a concave punch in the same diameter, then select a center positioning die, also in this diameter, and strike the disc that is sitting over the concave punch. You can also employ this technique to create a tapered washer.
All tools in the set are fashioned from tempered, high carbon tool steel. Furnished with a wood storage box with hinged lid to keep your tools organized. In our tests of this set, we found that it works best with our heavier Brass Head Mallet
